What we get asked most often

What is a geographic information system (GIS)?
A GIS captures, stores, analyses and visualises data tied to a location (parcels, networks, zones and so on). Our GIS office in Lausanne builds custom solutions with QGIS, PostgreSQL/PostGIS or the ESRI suite, depending on your needs.
What's the difference between GIS and mobile mapping?
Mobile mapping captures data in the field, along a route. A GIS structures, stores and puts that data to use once it has been collected: it's the management and visualisation tool that comes after, or independently of, data capture.
Do you work with open-source or proprietary tools?
Both. We work with QGIS and PostgreSQL/PostGIS for open-source solutions, as well as the ESRI suite for proprietary environments. The choice depends on your existing infrastructure and budget.
Can a municipality use a GIS?
Yes, that's a common use case. We build municipal map portals that let technical departments and residents consult territorial data directly online.
How long does it take to build a custom GIS application?
It depends on the complexity of the project. A simple map portal can go live within a few weeks; an application with automated data flows and advanced spatial analysis needs more time for scoping and development.
